Why do atheists think that the Bible "not making sense" makes it false?

Why do atheists think that the Bible "not making sense" makes it false, when things that do "make sense" have a poor track record when it comes to science.

Examples;

Earth not being flat

The fact that Earth is moving

That light objects fall at the same rate as heavy objects

That light can behave like waves and also like particles

Reading atheist answers to this Q, it's clear that most of them have missed the point you make about the connection with science. It's as if they just read the first 2 and a half sentences then exploded with their self-righteous indignation.

It betrays a lack of education on their part because education is the ability to listen to almost anything without losing your temper.

Therein lies the answer to your Q. The two main reasons are lack of biblical education, and lack of patience to reason a matter through, even to the end of the question.

EDIT - Just read this - an article on seismologists making new discoveries about the rate of rotation of Earth's inner iron core. Part of the article says:

Thousands of miles below our feet, pressures are crushing and temperatures are searing. “We can’t easily reproduce all of those in an actual laboratory [i.e. they can’t do that at all]. “But if we can peer into the Earth, we get a bit of insight into this really extreme set of conditions.” [n.b. that’s not literal ‘peering’]

The new work is just one of many attempts to figure out the core’s rate of super-rotation but offers one of the slowest rates for super-rotation yet suggested. Still, the differences between these studies is not necessarily a bad thing, Elizabeth Day says. [She’s a deep-earth seismologist at Imperial College, London.] “It doesn’t mean anyone is wrong,” she says. “It just means everyone is looking at slightly different things.” [Quote from article ends.]

Now, will those who ridicule Christians for having different views of the Bible show them the same spirit of generosity? Can students of ancient literature be allowed differing views into the distant past, if scientists can be allowed different conclusions re. hidden geology? The words ‘sauce’ ‘goose’ and ‘gander’ come to mind.

Why ( provide a reason ) do Atheist THINK that the BIBLE " not making sense" .......makes "IT" ( the book the bible ) FALSE ? ..

    # 1 THEIST have a burden of PROOF not atheist

    . # 2 the word ATHEIST means a person WITHOUT ( A) deity /god proposition ...

.. its not SPECIFIC to the BIBLE it relates to ANY CLAIM of DEITIES ...

    # 3 how is the claims of DEITIES in the BIBLE ( Hebrew culture ) any different from writings of PEOPLE from the following cultures Egyptian, Greek , Romans , Hindu Mayan Aztecs or indigenous american culture's theism

    # 4 Hebrew and christian claim those cultures theism and claims " make no sense " and are FALSE ... the majority do

    # 5 the question infers that the questioner ( one could suspect a THEIST of the christianity type ) is claiming to have "SPECIAL" abilities POWERS to KNOW what each INDIVIDUAL Atheist is "THINKING " .. use of ATHEISTS

perhaps the questioner could address individually a person who made such a claim .. if that is the case .... there are "SOME" TRUE statements in the BIBLE .... EGYPT EXIST it is referenced some 600 times by the some 40 writers of the bible that is made up of 66 BOOKS

what ATHEIST question are the CLAIMS of DEITIES ....

.CHRISTIANITY also questions other cultures claims of deities

oddly ... EXCEPT "THEIR " own

to date there are NO independent of theist mere assertion .. of deities /gods

basically the standard for theist is BECAUSE " I " SAID SO

I am special cause i say so or leaders tell me i am

many claim to have special powers

    cause i said so

SELF claim to hear voices from no discernible source

and have conversations with no discernible source

and have SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE ( related to a certain book )

    therefore it is true

    sounds like WOO WOO VOODOO

to date there are NO INDEPENDENT SELF EVIDENT deities /gods

ACTUALLY a CLAIM that if it does not MAKE SENSE , it is NOT TRUE is a statement often used by JUDGE JUDY .

. when plaintiffs and defendants tell her STORIES that do not make SENSE to her she asserts they are not TRUE ///// it is known that judge Judy is of jewish decent as to practicing Judaism and is a THEIST is unknown to this respondent ..

.. Judaism RABBINIC judaism requires ACTION ( related to the commandments NOT a BELIEF according to my jewish learning web page .. there are many Atheistic Jews

The Bible makes perfect sense when subjected to accurate and authoritative interpretation. Obviously it isn't going to make sense to anyone in the absence of correct interpretation.

no proof of any god has been provided

i don't care if your myth book makes sense or not

frankly large parts of the principia don't make sense but the proof of the laws of motion exist out side it so i know that is right

    see how it works

I'm an atheist and I think my views are fairly typical.

To me, The Bible certainly DOES “make sense”. The various texts in it were ordered, edited and translated to make sure, more or less, that it “makes sense”.

So far as being “false”, the contents are obviously not literally true but as a collection of myths, allegories etc. it is, to me, no more “false” than any other collection of ancient stories. I don't believe it was ever intended to be taken as “fact” either historically or scientifically. If anything is “false” it is some people's interpretation and understanding of The Bible's contents.

Atheists don't think the Bible doesn't make sense, they simply think it is inaccurate and inconsistent.

I'm not an atheist, but even I know the bible is a garbage book full of fairytales. If you read the bible and don't come to the same conclusion, then you're either deluded or have poor reading comprehension.

The Holy Bible makes perfect sense and even prophesied of athiests.....

1 Corinthians 2:14 King James Version (KJV)

14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
