cell phone turned off , battery removed?

In TV crime shows they often say "cell phone turned off , battery removed."

How do police know if a cell phone battery has been removed?

    many phones will send a signal constantly to cell towers with the battery in, WHICH can be tracked ....................

      Thanks. I suspected that was the case but as I saw it on a TV show I wasn't sure if they truly had that feature or if it was just made up for the shows.

    Because the provider can tell the police which cell tower the IMIE number is using. The cell phone jumps from tower to tower so it can receive calls. If it is not showing up on any tower then it is off.

    This is how it is possible to roughly trace people via a cell phone, however the search area is quite large in its radius.

    Oh I don’t know. Maybe they opened the back and looked in the battery compartment.

    If it’s an iPhone, plug it in.

    That is pure fiction.

    It comes from the old "they can ping it even if it's off" line of BS.

    The fact is that if a phone is shut off, it is OFF.

    It can neither react to nor send any kind of signal.

    Removing the battery won't make any difference,

    and There Is No Way To Tell.

    TV shows and movies are loaded with technological lies.

    Learn to live with that fact --- or stop watching.
