Can anyone explain to me why Wales are top of the rankings in Rugby Union after their win yesterday?
Last week it was said that if they won against England they'd overtake the All Blacks as No1... they didn't. This week BOTH Wales AND the All Blacks won their games yet Wales are now No1..... HOW?

The rankings calculations take into account the rankings of the teams playing each other.
Yes, both Wales and NZ lost last week, but by losing to no. 4 England, Wales lost fewer points in the standings than NZ did in losing to Australia. Wales actually drew closer to NZ in ranking point, but not enough to pass them.
This week both Wales and NZ had wins against the same teams they played earlier. So again, Wales earned more points in defeating a higher ranked team - this time it was enough to pass the All Blacks.

Rankings are meaningless. The team that wins the world cup is the best in the world, it's the only thing that counts.

Because World Rugby says so. The way the points are awarded or deducted are all available to be seen on their web site.
