Losing weight is mostly about diet vs exercise (they say it's 70% what you eat, 20% exercise, and 10% genetics). If you're too embarrassed then it might be worth dieting for several months, until you're at a much more comfortable weight for you, then you can take up running again. Or, you can just jumprope at your home.
I notice heavier people jogging around where I live all the time btw. No one thinks anything of it, and neither should you. The only thing I recommend is losing some pounds first, because the extra weight increases your risk of injury during exercise. But trust me nobody is going to be laughing at you for running.
