German Shepherds, and most other dogs, can see well at night and in low light. Their ability to see in the dark is mostly due to reflective tissue behind the retina called tapetum.

Yes far far better than you or i can... Dogs see a lot better than humans do at night. Dogs have many adaptations for low-light vision. A larger pupil lets in more light. The center of the retina has more of the light-sensitive cells (rods), which work better in dim light than the color-detecting cones do in Humans.

ANY BREED or mix of dog (not just GSD) can see BETTER AT NIGHT, than humans or many other animals without the same type of eyeball & retina - that canines have.

Dogs and cats have a thing called the tapetum lucidum, which is a reflective membrane under the retina. Light strikes the retina once on the way in, and again on the way out after being reflected. (this is why dog and cat eyes appear to 'glow' in the dark if you direct a beam of light at them). In principle it means dogs ability to see in low light is at least twice as good as an animal without a tapetum (e.g. humans).

Dogs also have a retina that has evolved to be much better at seeing in low light, with a trade-off that they have poor perception of colour.

So any dog is able to see significantly better in low light than you can. A German shepherd unfortunately will probably only see the stars because they're so ill-bred with such badly sloping backs that their snouts point permanently towards the heavens as they crawl around with their dislocated hips.

Much better than you can. Many animals have much better eyes, smell, hearing than humans. One animal that is probably superior to both humans and dogs is the common cow.

Yes, it can see better at night than we do. They also have a sense of smell that is a lot stronger than ours. So if the dog don't see it/something, it may smell it before it sees it.
