    k^2 - 3k = 28

    k^2 - 3k - 28 = 0

    (k - 7)(k + 4) = 0

    k = -4, 7

    and if you're asked to find x:

    k = -4:

    -4 = (x + 3)/(x - 4)

    -4(x - 4) = x + 3

    -4x + 16 = x + 3

    16 - 3 = x + 4x

    13 = 5x

    x = 13/5

    k: 7

    7 = (x + 3)/(x - 4)

    7(x - 4) = x + 3

    7x - 28 = x + 3

    7x - x = 3 + 28

    x = 31/6

    Using the quadratic equation formula K = -4 or 7
