Is it normal?

I just got my braces off last week. I received hawley retainers for the top and bottom. when i try to close my teeth together the metal square pieces of my top retainer meet my bottom teeth therefore when i close my bite i am biting down on the metal. Im afraid to try to push the retainer up further in between my teeth because i think its sinking in between and has made a small gap between my first molar and 2nd molar on both sides of my top teeth.

No, you should not be hitting the metal which, without seeing it, I assume is the wire clasps.

Make an appointment and take the retainers with you. They need to be adjusted.
