Character is something that others get from you.

Well, I give them the freedom to make mistakes.

Without that "respect" there is no philosopher to endure.

What is the importance of it?

only if he is a good philosopher

    1.

the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual.

A character would be a good factor in an individual's philosophy and would also be a reason there are different philosophies/ways of seeing things and dealing with them

It is unclear how you mean that - the philosophers having a particular character or the philosophy having character? Either way it is unavoidable but it's not necessarily a good factor .

Ironically, have for the moment forgotten the name of a modern, French possibly, philosopher who philosophizes in the "characterless" mode (and not a famous, godless type such as Badiou, etc.). Possibly somewhat outre and/or moderne, imho, although the effort seems to have had some inspirational link to Musil's "The Man without Qualities."

Howbeit, even AI-generated "thinking" is based first on human programming, and secondly on further AI deep learning hence AI-"character."

If you're interested in acquiring more awareness of character and philosophy, including the noble character of Plato's Guardians, etc., Ami-Ben Scharfstein's "The Philosophers: Their Lives and the Nature of Their Thought" and Paul Johnson's "Intellectuals" are good, worthwhile.

If you wanted to become recognized, yes. If you just wanted to be philosophical, not exactly. I am incredibly philosophical and have no education for so or a 100% suitable character to become a well known and respected philosopher. I guess character is good because you obviously need a motive for your statements. If you were just some womanizing jackass, it would be pretty hard for you to come up with something deep and philosophical since you're a shallow person.
