Value of a used handgun?
I don't have the model # of the gun in question since it's not in my possession at the moment, but I may be acquiring a S&W 357 Magnum, snub-nose, in almost perfect condition, and was purchased new in the early 1980's. Black rubber grip, stainless steel, swing-out cylinder. Hasn't been fired in at least 16 years but was recently maintained.
I'd like to sell it or use as a trade-in for a different gun.

You can find a new one for $500-$600. If you find the right buyer, you might get $400 if it is really in like-new condition, but I'd expect a price closer to $300.
This also depends on location, some stuff is just cheaper in some places than others.
