Can anybody help me identify this snake that appeared on the street in Philadelphia it doesn't look like anything native my knowledge?

    The vertical sides and the coloration identify it as a black rat snake. They ARE natives, although less common than the similar black racer (rounded sides).

    Black rat snake and much native to north America. Harmless, but many I have caught were a bit bitey.
