Why did the prison want to stop the suicide of Epstein?

    They wanted him testify about the other pedophiles who were involved in his operations. There is now a possibility that many of them will go unpunished.

    It is always bad press for any prison if a prisoner manages to commit suicide. Well-run prisons have systems in operation that guard against exactly this kind of event.

    Naturally, having got as far as arresting someone, it is a waste of a lot of time and effort if the accused never gets as far as the court room.

    Prison personnel are required to prevent inmates from killing themselves. It's the law. Epstein was on 24/7 suicide watch, but that was suspended for some as yet unclear reason.
