Anything paradoxical about climate activist Greta Thunberg and her sailing voyage across the Atlantic in her solar powered racing yacht?

It cost millions of dollars to build out of high tech caustic and volatile chemical resins but is solar powered and stores its power in lead batteries....

Update:

paradoxical definition: seeming impossible or difficult to understand because of containing two opposite facts or characteristics

Greta. They dress her like a milkmaid from Wisconsin in 1890 and send her out regurgitating the same 30 or 40 Communist slogans over and over – we have to move “forward”, revolution is inevitable, we can’t trust our parents, we should all be afraid, we need to end capitalism and greed, yadda yadda. My 14 y/o listened to her for 2 minutes and had it figured out.

The materials used in the yacht are much the same as those used in the jet she might have taken. But of course once built the jet burns (eg 747) burns through 10-11 tons of fuel per hour of flight. While the yacht run on wind and sunlight.

Deniers use much the same argument when they compare wind and solar to coal. Pointing out the material the renewables are made from, while ignoring all the concrete and steel that goes into a coal power station. Just as they ignore that said coal fired power station will need millions of tons of coal to burn over its lifetime, for a 1000 MWe plant that’s about 9000 tons per day, coal that also needs to be mined and transported. The fuel for wind & solar is free and needs no mining or transport, ever.

You overlooked the fact that the jet was going there anyway. The luxury racing yatch made a special trip and relied on diesel engines for all port entries and to cross the doldrums.

Well I don’t think as talented as she is she had the capacity to swim or flap her wings and fly. I guess you’d have to do a cost/ benefit comparison between the cost and toxicity of building/operating a commercial jet liner and all the ancillary services like airports, baggage handlers on the Tarmac releasing methane and mercaptans into the atmosphere after farting from eating a big Mac meal w/ large fries, and the cost and toxicity of building/operating that boat she went on. And since we don’t live in a perfect world and you would just have to satisfy yourself with knowing that she did the best she could. It’s true that the Planet is dying. Maybe if she had time to sail across the ocean in a more environmentally conscious 10’ dinghy she would have. But I guess she feels that the Emergency is upon us

The aim of activism is to try to bring about social or political change.

The trip across the Atlantic is merely a way of raising awareness. I think we can forgive the crew for sailing a boat that's not 100% green. The issue isn't how do we go back to live like we did in the Stone Age and not impact the planet, but how we cut our CO2 emissions. Is the trip she is taking more environmentally friendly than taking a plane?

The cynics would only be happy if Greta, a 16 year old girl, rowed across the Atlantic in a wooden boat wearing waterproof clothing made of hemp, eating food she'd grown from her own back garden, after planting new trees to compensate for the boat itself.

How was your yacht built? through the use of massive amounts of chemicals and energy provided NOT by foot power or the hamster on the wheel in her brain?? She has an diesel engine in there, she needs POWER to be generated to give her heat, or A/C, she needs power for the navigation systems, the radio, and food storage. She is a useless hypocrite sold by her parents into believing these Global Warming liars!

It's on par with Prince Charles telling us he runs his Aston Martin on "surplus" wine, but at least she's consistant unlike Harry and Meghan flying in private jets everywhere, while lecturing us on climate change.

Headline should read ''Teen brainwashed by parents and teachers sets off on suicide_mission''

Anyone else catch the irony of a “Diesel engine on board in case the sun doesn’t shine”? F you, still a hypocrite. Sail across the ocean on”renewable” energy, or don’t. You can’t rely on ole evil faithful oil to save you if your sun doesn’t shine or wind doesn’t blow.
