There are various state regulations for how to legally dissolve an LLC, which may include publication of notice, filing of papers, posting a bond, waiting some statutory period, etc.

Why would you want to do that? The LLC protects your personal assets from lawsuits and claims from creditors. A sole proprietorship exposes all your assets to claims from any source.

It's not a "myth". It's the single most important reason people form an LLC: to protect their personal assets from lawsuits against the company by creating the separation. "Piercing the corporate veil" is extremely rare for any well run LLC.

An LLC is a state designation. Contact your state to dissolve it.

an LLC is not a tax category.

If you have an LLC but not a corporation (S-Corp), it already is a sole proprietorship.

How is an LLC "already a sole proprietorship"? That's like saying a joint venture is the same as doing something alone.
