We'll find out the actual impact on us 5,10 years down the road, when countries that have been tariffed to death by the U.S. set out and form other economic alliances and bypass and go around the U.S. Trump will be long gone, hopefully gone by 2020

They have not benefited us, just makes us pay more in taxes.(Tariffs) No one wants to realize or admit that his major tax cuts for the wealthy corporations took money out of america's pockets. Money that needs to be made up for somehow. Like forcing us to pay taxes(Tariffs) on imported items.

I don't think it's a bad thing to ask for a fair deal. We buy masses of things from China. The least we could ask is that the stuff we buy isn't infringing on copyrights and trademarks.

The problem is that no matter how we try to fix it, even assuming success, it's going to be bad for us in the short term, because without incentive, China is not going to bother assuring the integrity of their goods, which means it'll cost them more to follow our rules, which means we have to make it worth more to follow the rules.

-- and we all know how people love following rules instead of acting like they don't need rules.

"Oh they're trying to strong-arm us? Let's just tax everything they sell. F* them." <-- that's the standard human response.

You must want to surrender right? At some point trade rules need to be enforced.

As the US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer says, you have to start with the assumption that China is a problem. They require US Companies to hand over technology, Chinese investors buy up US companies and then transfer the technology to China WITHOUT LETTING US investors buy Chinese companies. It's this lack of reciprocity that's a problem. Of course in the short run the Trade war isn't helping us. The US has tried negotiating with China in the past, Obama and the Clinton both tried, but guess what, China didn't do anything. So to call this Trade War "Trumps trade war" is just a pejorative that really isn't needed. This is the only possible next step in trying to get China to behave like a normal country. Also don't forget the Chinese Government subsidies steel producers and produces steel at a non-competitive price which they only do in order to drive other companies out of business.

Trump's trade war overwhelmingly benefiting large farms while smaller ones struggle, new report shows.

Donald Trump’s farm bailouts meant to offset the impact of the US trade war with China are benefiting large corporate farms in America immensely while leaving small farmers in the lurch, according to a new analysis of US Department of Agriculture (USDA) data.

Well, things cost more so we spend less so our savings go up to prepare when everyone loses their jobs thanks to the drop in sales.

It hasn't quite yet but it has put China ( and others ) on notice that grossly imbalanced trading , theft of intellectual property and currency manipulation will no longer be tolerated .

We can't continue on as the past entrenched career politicians have ignoring ( or in many cases , facilitating ) these issues .
