Can I create my own telephone number for my room?

If I have a landline phone in my room, am I able to create my own phone number as opposed to my house number?

Get a magic jack. 40 dollars a year, long distance, acts just like any home phone. I`ve had one for 11 years.

Contact the phone company and request another line.

Of course, someone will have to pay for it...

Traditional (POTS) phone lines require two dedicated wires for each phone line. Most phone cables are wired with four wires for two lines.

The phone company would charge for a second line and sometimes the electrician that wired the house only bothers to connect one set. If the house was properly wired and you attempt to use a normal 1 line phone in a correctly wired 4 wire jack you would then a special splitter .

Other probably cheaper and easier options would be to order a VOIP line from your internet provider or to get a Google Voice type adapter .

Yes, the phone company can sell your family another line, and you can connect one or more phones to that line. (A standard single line phone can only be connected to one line at a time.)

Or, if you've earned the privilege of having your own number, it's time to go cellular since it'll cost extra anyway.

Sure - if you set up an account and pay the bill for it.

No, not unless you set up your own account and pay the bill.
