How do families where both parents work manage summers? It’s not recommended to leave kids under 13 alone all day. Do most just use some?

Combination of summer camp and day care?

They either use sitters, day care, or day camps.

Our youngest daughter is a teacher, and the past two summers she has nannied for parents who need someone to watch their children during the summer. This year it was two little girls and was only a few days per week as they had a grandma and another person who also helped watch them.

My husband and I handled it by working different shifts.

We only had about one hour overlap that we needed someone to watch our daughters. Otherwise, one of us was home with them. We had a family member that was available to watch our daughters for an hour to cover the shift overlap.
