Do you count the loop on the hook?

    According to Mikey on "The Crochet Crowd," the loop on the hook is never counted.

    If you do count it, make sure you count it on every row, so it comes out even, but watch out for stitch patterns that require a certain number of stitches per repeat. Counting that loop will mess you up big time.

    Perhaps more info.

    Assuming you mean crocheting. The loop you put on the crochet hook to secure the yarn is not counted.

    I count while I loop it

    then later, I check the completed row.
