Do Conservatives actually believe that China is paying the tariffs?

Importers and consumers pay the tariffs .

And - "And out of that many billions of dollars, we’re taking a part of it and giving it to the farmers " (Trump ) is also untrue.

I'm not saying that The Pres is completely wrong in his assessment the China trade, by why lie? Or, does it not matter because Trump's base believes anything he says?

Many of them are poorly informed on this subject. The don't grasp that in the end, it's American consumers who pay the bills. If the price of importing Chinese goods goes up because of tariffs, then the prices of the goods as sold in the stores will also go up. That means the prices we American manufacturers and consumers pay will be higher.

Edit: Infinity, Chinese goods are not jimcrack cheap items. Do you have ANY idea how many things you buy now are made overseas? Almost everything besides food these days. And they DO last as long as anything made here lasts. The old days of cheap, quickly-falling-apart Asian goods are long gone. Anything made here lasts no longer. You seem to be living in some past era.

Oh, and to consumers, price IS everything. They're not worried about whether something comes from China; they are no longer worried about Chinese quality. They are worried about PRICE.

US importers of Chinese goods pay the tariffs, and that extra cost will eventually be put on the US consumer.

Do you really think that you know more about international trade than Trump does? He built and owns real estate in a number of foreign countries. What is your experience.

I can read and I understand who pays a tariff.
And, as Lili points out - this idiot inherited millions and went bankrupt 4 times -

Trad wars hurt both, both sides impose/increase tariffs and both sides pay. That was why the farmers received supplemental income. We can argue that it is too much or not enough, but that is just a sidebar. Economically, China has been hurt more by this then the US. But China also know the left, if elected, will end it. That is a win for China, a return to the old. All China needs to do is hold out for the election, this is a known thanks to the left and our medias attacks on Trump. If they had supported him, at least publicly, this entire thing may have been over by now. I see many on the left and the media attack trump over this trade war, yet have yet seen any solutions offered. He talked, threatened, blustered prior to putting the Tariffs in place. Some deals with China as well as others were reworked, China has decided to hold fast in a few areas. Obama Talked about something needed to be done, Hillary ran as part of her platform, reworking these terrible trade deals. So they do need to be done and Trump is trying to do just that.

Of course their Lord and Master(Trump) has spoken and anyone disloyal enough to contradict him is a traitor!

Probably not, but they accept it because their lord and master preaches it.

You do't understand. The whole purpose of the Tariffs is to gain better trade deals in the long run. No one wants to pay tariffs, but we don't want to be on the sh1t end of the free trade deals that we've had for the past several decades. The tariffs are more or less just a bargining chip. Saying: "Hey you don't like it, I don't like it either. But unless we get a better deal we have to keepl it. So if you give us a better deal we will get rid of it."

Which is working to a case becuase for the past 6 months to a year we've been in talks with china about better trade deals. Though neither side can come to an agreement. More tarrifs are being placed to increase pressure and speed up the process.

In the end. Progress doesn't ever come without some form of sacrafice.

Anon, most people do understand the rationale. However, there is NEVER a guarantee that it will work, not with a country like China, which wields a great deal of power here. Donnie's being quite naïve, and in the meantime, Americans will pay.

No they believe that increased prices will cause the manufacturers to make their products some place else and some of those companies will bring jobs back to the states.

Mike, as usual, you are displaying that you have no idea what's going on. Do you have any education on at all? No, Infinity. China isn't footing the bill. We are, because both our tariffs (on goods imported from China) and retaliatory tariffs set by China will be passed on to American consumers.
