Is it easier to learn on a piano or a keyboard?

Keyboard is easier as the claviers are not as hard and heavy as piano.

Besides, simpler keyboards don't have the piano pedals which again makes it easier. It's a good start!

Electric keyboard. A piano has sensitive keys that can feel sort of heavy to a beginner and be a hindrance. An electric keyboard has no dynamics, so the keys will feel lighter.

The better keyboards are played just like a piano. The ones you can get for $100 won't have the same feel as a piano, and usually won't have a sustain pedal.

It is not the keyboard vs piano so much at the VERY beginning. It is the quality of the teacher.

That's like asking if it's easier to learn with a rugby ball or an american football. They are not the same instrument and are used in different ways.

My husband accepts that lower income families struggle to pay for lessons from a fine teacher - so he advises them about a decent keyboard FIRST. Eventually, they all move up to a decent piano. By then, the kid is acheiving high ratings - and playing the keyboard, amped, in jazz band.

Keyboard. Although, one can learn just as fast with the piano if he has a good teacher.
