    10 percent

According to the most recent estimates, in 2015, 10 percent of the world's population lived on less than US$1.90 a day, compared to 11 percent in 2013. That's down from nearly 36 percent in 1990. Nearly 1.1 billion fewer people are living in extreme poverty than in 1990.

The world is poor as consumption exceeds production, in general.

99% of the world's population is poorer than the top 1%.

    Astounding isn't it.

But what is far worse is that only half of the entire population has more than the average income.

If you define poor as "not having enough to eat" then you are looking at perhaps 80% of the world is poor.

But having "too much to eat" is hardly any better.

It depends on how you define poor. Nearly half the world's population survives on less than US$5.50 per day, which is the minimum amount necessary to meet basic needs in middle/upper class economies.

'poor' is a comparative word, you would need some one to compare the people to to see how they compare ............................................
