Could this injury be worse than/more of a severe sprain? What should I do?

A couple days ago I bust my *** down some stairs like the genius I am. Swelling was instantaneous, but I was able to walk on it for the next hour and a half or so. Soon after swelling increased and the pain was nearly unbearable. I went to the er and they diagnosed it as a sprain, didn’t wrap it up or anything just sent me home. 3 days later there’s terrible bruising which keeps getting worse, pain is even worse than it was before, and my ankle is still completely numb. At this point I can’t even walk on it, it feels like a noodle. I’ve included some pictures; should I return to the doctor now, and do you think it could be worse than just a sprain? I’ve gotten a sprained ankle before and the pain wasn’t nearly as bad, there wasn’t even any bruising. Ankle is nearly double the size of my other one.

That's expected from a sprain. Did you even ice it down? You should have kept it iced for the first day, at the least.

Keep pumping in the pain relievers. Put ice on it. If the swelling doesn't go down in the next day or two, go see your doctor.
