Not required on trucks at all. OSHA and some work environments require them. My son's skid steer had a back up beeper on it. NO LONGER.

When pedestrians wear loud earbuds and won't look where they're going, backup alarms only witness for the driver and other pedestrians who are smarter and don't venture into the blind spot of a moving truck.

No, but they may be required by the trucking companies insurance carrier.

Only indoors or loading dock areas are OSHA required to have them installed.

That would be fork lifts and automated indoor robotic control dolly type vehicles.

Legally necessary? That depends on the laws where the truck operates.

But even if not legally required, they are helpful to notifiy others that the truck is reversing. Trucks have huge blind spots which makes it more difficult for the driver to reverse safely.

It is a requirement in some places.

Some insurance companies may also require them, or refuse to insure vehicles that do not have them.
