What do you do to overcome the feeling of loneliness, especially when you don't really want to be around other people?

Do you ever feel this way?
You're lonely, but you don't want to be around the regular people you spend time with, or you maybe want to be alone--but you feel lonely?
It may seem counter intuitive, but it's a common feeling I'm fairly certain.
What do you do when you feel this way?
