Anyone know people who only got famous AFTER their death?

It’s interesting to me that this was the case with Vincent Van Gogh. The Dutch painter only sold one painting in his life-time.

l was just wondering if there were others? Thanks

Kafka, Dickinson as mentioned. Also, Rimbaud, Albert Pinkham Ryder, Alan Turing, Charles Babbage, Harriet Jacobs, Robert Johnson, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Basquiat, Anne Frank—there are many. Herman Melville and F. Scott Fitzgerald were known in their day, died in some obscurity, but their reputations soared after their deaths.

It's almost MORE common to get famous only after your death.

In the art world El Greco was a failure in his lifetime

but achieved fame when his work was re-evalutated by modernists.

Emily Dickinson the poet was barely published in her lifetime.

James Dean was dead by the time his work was recognised.

Everyone knows of Franz Kafka, but few did when he was alive.

Certainly many famous people have become more famous after they have died.
