But it is not necessarily "lucky".
Out of ALL marriages:
- 50% end in divorce
- 12.5% last but are miserable
- 25% last, but the emotion has died out and they just exist together
- 12.5% last, and after 15-20 years they become soothing nurturing relationships.
And it has nothing to do with whether or not the successful marriages were first loves. It is emotional maturity, not love, that makes a marriage succeed. And most "first loves" happen when we are too young TO make it work.
In fact, experts say that until we have lived on our own, entirely self-supporting, for at least 5 years, we are not likely to be able to make marriage work. So unless your first love started between age 23 and 27 ... it's not likely to last.
