when cats lick themselves, do they taste their fur and whatever is on it?

    Yes of course they do. And that is why many cats in homes with people that smoke refuse to groom them selves. If your cat is very dirty or has something potentially harmful on their fur, wipe them down with a wet paper towel or better still a baby wipe (nothing with any sort of anti-bacterial ingredients or bleach). Then allow the cat to finish the job.

    Yes, they are trying to hide their scent by licking off anything that would give them away. When it tastes like fur they stop.
