What action should the US use to protect shipping in the Strait of Hormuz?

@ Cindy LGPB The Iran nuclear "deal" was Obama giving nuclear weapons to his fellow islamists.
If I understand the news reports correctly, there was a British warship in close proximity to the British flagged ship the Iranians took. I fail to understand why the British failed to protect their own ship from being taken by pirates.

More than anything, more than the invasion of the immigrant caravan, more than Trump's squabbles with young female Congresswomen, more than Mr. Epstein's going to jail, and more than the never-ending diplomatic ball game with North Korea, the current tensions with Iran take all precedence. The ball is in Iran's court. They are acting childishly and foolishly. It's time for them to come down off their high horse and talk to the West, to America, Britain, and very importantly, to Russia too.

Rejoining the Iranian nuclear deal would do it.
