Exodus 21:16 says that if anyone kidnaps a person and attempts to sell him, or treats him as a slave, that person should be put to death.?

If a modern police officer arrests a person without cause, and that person is proven to be innocent, what punishment should the police officer get?

Hint: there were no police in the Old Testament.

When the police start selling arrestees into slavery you might have a case.

If prisoners aren't slaves I'm not sure what they are.

Hint: The officer DOES NOT attempt to sell or enslave the person arrested.

Note: The Bible allows for trials, which INHERENTLY suggests that the accused may not always be guilty.
