Why were the Germans so advanced during both World Wars?

The German Army of both wars was more efficient and had better tactics and equipment. This is agreed on by Allied commanders of the time and historians today. They lost because their enemies had far more men and natural resources. They were also very inventive. The shape of the World War I German helmet was better than the Allied ones and almost all militaries use it today. They also had the world's first submachine gun. In World War II they had the world's first general purpose machine gun, assault rifle, jet fighter, jet bomber, rocket-propelled aircraft, ballistic missile, guided missile, the list goes on. German scientists and inventors were highly sought after after the war by the Allies.

The Germans put their economy on a war footing and piled resources into military hardware and technical research. The Nazis had the backing of the big industrialists too.

Germany didn't set its economy on a "total war" footing in WWII until mid-1943. By that time, its hope of winning or even of reaching a neutral result was virtually zero.

They weren't. It's just comforting for the eventual "winning" side for them to pat themselves on the back by promoting such B.S.

Germany had a long history of valuing education, particularly in the sciences.

England invented artificial dye but German turned it into a chemical industry.

    And yet they lost.

Because sometimes using the most technologically advanced weapon is not the answer, sometimes the answer is to have many more, slightly less advanced, weapons.

Not guided missiles. You're getting a little ahead of yourself there.

It's true the Germans were inventive. They lost the war because Hitler was reckless and bit off much more than he could chew; the German economy simply couldn't cope with the demands of the war. The British and French couldn't either, and depended heavily upon money from the USA. And don't forget the USA developed the atomic bomb.

You are completely wrong. No other country had the money to do this, and the top scientists were all working for the USA. I am not a nationalist and have no interest in blowing the horn for the USA, but facts are facts.

There is a myth that the German technology was universally superior to allied technology.

In WW2 The German tanks were not superior during their advance into western Europe. The famous Tiger was very tough. However, it was unreliable because of serious design faults.

They were heavily reliant on horses throughout the war.

The U Boats were eventually beaten by better tactics and technology.

They never developed a decent strategic bomber.

"universally superior." Did you find that in those same comic books?

Submachine gun could be said to be Austrian-Hungarian. The MP-18 was not as successful at the task as the Thompson Submachine gun. But the way the first weapon to be called a submachine gun was the Thompson Submachine gun- so it is a USA invention. Invented in the USA 1921!

As for the assault rifle- no such animal existed at the beginning of the war. The M-1 carbine was in use by the USA in 1940. Yes there were German and Japanese counter parts- but still the USA had such a weapon before entering the war.

Tanks- while Germany had the better tanks for when the battle field was suitable for tank on tank warfare, in many theaters no such ground was available. When it was artillery and close support aircraft neutralized them.

Rocket powered aircraft is pretty useless. General Doolittle did use rocket boosters on his aircraft to make a bombing raid on Tokyo (take off assistance).

The German missiles were just not dependable! Yes they used them- but actually never perfected them. Maybe if Germany had used those resources another way things would be different.

The reason is simple for what advantage the Germans did have. The allies ignored a concept that has been proven to be true more often then not. That concept is:

"If you want peace prepare for war!"

Maybe if things were different, they wouldn't be the same. You MUST be a famous philosopher.
"Si vis pacem, para bellum" is NOT "proven to be true more often than not." That's just the way a naturally belligerent person chooses to perceive reality.

The Germans still are advanced to this day. That's why their cars are revered the world over.

As for the wars, WW1 saw brought the German U-boat that devastated British shipping and swept away the opposition.

WW2 saw the V1and V2 that caused so much calamity with the London Blitz that was actually caused by Churchill with his indiscriminate bombing of Berlin.
