The steel pipes can be galvanized steel or stainless steel.

The galvanized steel pipes are generally used because of their low cost. The stainless steel pipes are used in food processing industries for total or no corrosion ingress to the food. They are also used to convey highly corrosive gases / fluids which are non reactive to the steel.

Steel pipes contain and distribute liquid.

Drinking water piping can be steel piping that is galvanized. It can not be ungalvanized unless the steel is stainless steel.

Natural gas piping can be ungalvanized steel piping.

My 1929 house has ungalvanized steel steam piping.

Generally steel pipes carry liquids just as copper, plastic, glass and rubber pipes do.
