Didn’t add base paint, just painted using the intended color but I’m still seeing streaks of wood. Could adding the base paint 1st be it?

    It would have been best to have used a primer. Was the wood finished? If it was, you might want to ask a big-box DIY store what you should do. Maybe just a second coat would work. Good luck!

    just try a second coat. even that paint and primer n one product doesn't actually cover dark colors well.

    Yes. A primer coat (base coat) Is formulated differently than the top coat. It seals the wood surface and helps the top coat to cover more evenly. Without a base coat, the color coat sinks into the wood and can even raise the grain, making it harder to cover. But if will probably cover if you let it dry thoroughly and keep adding coats until you're satisfied.
