Weird Air Conditioner smell?

I have a window unit air conditioner. I've been using it for a couple years sparingly with no issues, usually at the same temp (72).

Today, I turned the temp down to 70 and noticed that the room wasn't cooling fast enough becuase the vent panels were closed/pointing to the side instead of straight.

I opened the panels so that the air blows straight.

Now I'm smelling a weird smell that I can't describe (sort of gassy or rubbery).

What could this smell be? Should I be worried?

Update:

Nevermind. Should have asked on Reddit

They get dirty and have to be cleaned of dirt and mold. We don't know if you're handy or not, but the front panel unscrews, the green ground wire can be loosened, and you can slide the unit out and take it outdoors and clean it, carefully.
