FOP = Fraternal Order of Police.

Officially, the card doesn't do SQUAT.

Unofficially, it supposedly lets officers know another officer trusted you enough to give you a card.

SOME officers may be more likely to give you the benefit of the doubt in SOME cases if you show the card.

It demonstrates to Officers of the Law, that you are a responsible, right-thinking citizen, who conducts himself in a considered and conservative manner in both private and public life. It lends weight to your testimony when compared to that of other persons they may have to confront in any given situation, thus making their job easier.

FOP are the people who defend police when they use excessive force or plant evidence or kill an unarmed black person and get caught on video. They smear the victims of police violence and attack lawmakers who try to hold police accountable.

In short, they're the ones who make sure that the bad apples stay right where they are to rot the entire barrel.
