Should an almost 4 month old be able to stand by themselves without leaning forward or backwards?

NO. NO sitting or standing until, at least, 6-months of age.....before that, his or her bones are NOT strong enough to do this. NO walking until 1-year of age, at least.

No. The earliest point for that is usually around 8 months and the common point is closer to 12 months.

(One of my daughters walked at 9 months. The other one was 14 months)

No. If it can stand at all, it should be holding onto something.

    Peace.

Of course not. They can't even stand at 4 months.

No. It would be NICE if it could, but babes generally can stand (and not fall over) in the 12th month of their life and not sooner.
