Does being friendly to people at work matter much?

For example, holding doors open for people, using good manners, smiling at people, etc...

Yes, it really does. When you're mean your co-workers will notice and everyone will start talking about it, eventually they'll tell management, and they'll get tired about hearing about it, and consequences will happen so the rest can shut up about it

  • There's nothing wrong with being friendly and having good manners.

You don't want to be the rude guy with an attitude.

Its just good manners. i never went around smiling at people but I would hold the door open for someone if I got to the door first.
