    Perhaps you meant MATRIX ?

A MATRIX is an array of numbers representing the coefficients of equations.

    Each row represents 1 equation.

Each column represents 1 type of variable.

An mxn matrix has dimensions: m rows and n columns.

Thus if you have a 2x2 matrix, you are representing 2 equations (2 rows) of 2 variables (2 columns).

    A 3x4 matrix represents 3 equations of 4 variables.

You can only add and subtract matrices of the same dimension.

You can only multiply matrices where the #columns of the first matrix equals the #rows in the 2nd matrix.

It is short for 'matriculation'. Its meaning varies slightly from country to country. Here in the UK it means enrolling in university.
