A quality Persian rug from Iran will last several lifetimes. They are essentially indestructible. Russians hang them on the walls for insulation, and we have 2 that we inherited from my family. We wore several layers of our clothes and carried these large rugs (9x12) as carry-on luggage from Siberia to Houston, back in the days when the airlines were more tolerant with their passengers. They scrub up nice and there is still no wear on them. These are real rugs, not machine made that you buy in stores. You might look on ebay for a used one. All Persian carpets are used.

Several lifetimes - if you don't get moths.

(And even if you do they can be repaired.)

Many look better the older they are,

wish I could say the same about my husband.

There are rugs two and a half thousand years old,

    but they are hardly typical.

There are Persian rugs 200 years old. How long they last depends on the quality the rug had in the first place, and the use and care it gets during its lifetime.
