What salary is considered upper middle class for a single person? Is it 50k a year?

    $50,000 a year is lower middle class.

    No. Cost of living is the biggest factor. $50k wouldn't be an upper-middle class income for a single anywhere in the US. But $100k would be where the cost of living is reasonable, while in San Francisco or NYC, it wouldn't be close. It would be a decent income but so much of it would go to pay for basic needs - housing, transportation, food - that there wouldn't be enough left to live an upper-middle class lifestyle.

    Depends on where you live. In NYC... 50k is just above poverty level. In Alabama, you would be considered very well off.
