Garlic powder actually helps a dog's coat and eyesight. Studies have shown that a dog that eats garlic is, pound for pound, much stronger than a dog who's stuck with other types of vegetables snuck into commercially-sold kibble.

I recommend you use garlic. It decreases the risk of disease.

Garlic is not generally safe for dogs and is not a home remedy for anything, so the answer is NEVER.

Ask your Vet. I heard this old wives tale, asked my Vet and his answer was "never."

Is there a reason you keep posting this same question?

Tiny amounts of garlic as a flavoring is safe for some large dogs breeds -- but not Japanese breeds of dogs (e.g., Akita, Shiba Inu). I have a 120 pound German Shepherd and he's never had a problem eating table scraps of meet seasoned with garlic.

But it's generally not a good idea. Once I realized garlic was bad for dogs, I made sure my GSD did not get any.
