To take over the world and Metropolis.

Darkseids main belief is that free-will is a weakness and he doesn't trust people to give it up willingly, so his main goal has always been to obtain and use the anti-life equation. The anti-life equation is a mathematical equation that essentially eradicates free-will and turns people who have succumbed to the anti-life equation into slaves basically.

To subjugate the children of Apocalypse and New Genesis and force them to become his slave soldiers.

to take over new genesis and depose the new gods

or really, to let jack kirby make insane art, depending on your viewpoint on the whole thing.

To acquire something called the Anti-Life equation, which would allow him to control all the life in the universe.

He wants the Anti-Life Equation, which is hidden within a barrier at the end of the universe. The barrier is essentially the ultimate puzzle, capable of withstanding the outright force of God its self. Darkseid's own father is forever trapped in it, and that dude made Darkseid look like a stuffed bunny.

With the Anti-Life Equation, Darkseid can shut off every source of free will in the entirety of all realities; giving him absolute dominion over literally everything.

You could always explore 'post-Darkseid'. By the events of DC 1 Million, he's so bored that he just gives up and leaves existence with Martian Manhunter. I do not believe there's any story to cover what the hell happened with his world and army following that.
