Is it hard nowadays for someone to buy a home, get married, have kids, and not have financial problems. Is that rare?

It's not that hard if you don't take on much debt, spend as little as possible until your mid thirties, and both of you work.

I did it, and we are now worth >$3 million in our 70s.

I skipped the married & have kids part and that made it a lot easier.
