Diesel scrappage scheme UK, when you trade in your old car, do you have to buy a 'brand new car' ?

Or can it be 5 or 6 years old ?

There is no "UK diesel scrappage scheme". What there is are dealer incentives to try and get you to buy a new car from them. All that happens is that they give you a slightly better trade in on your diesel vehicle.

There is no UK-wide diesel scrappage scheme.

Some manufacturers are running their own schemes, where they offer discount off a brand-new car if the trade-in car meets certain rules.

I think Nissan were offering a similar deal against approved used Leaf electric cars, but I don't know if it is still available, and it was the only scheme that applied to the purchase of a used car.

Yes, it has to be a brand new car with lower emissions.

It consists of a discount off the price of a brand new car and is sponsored by the car manufacturers. There are rules of what is and is not eligible. Yes, you have to buy a brand new car.
