Whats this bug?

Found it outside on a flower. One of my folks thinks it could be some weird bee. Haven't seen anything like it.

Specifically, that's actually a cicada shedding, not a live cicada.

The cicada nymph feeds and grows underground. When it is fully grown, it goes up to the surface, climbs a tall object, then hatches out of its skin as an adult cicada, which have wings, and flies off. That shed skin is then left behind.

Can't see the eyes (they would be red) but think it is a cicada. They are harmless and lots of animals and birds eat them.

Yes, that's a cicada. Some people call it a "7 year / 14 year locust" even though it has nothing to do with locusts.
