Why are ovens so hard to turn on?

Update:

No I mean electric ovens.

Update 2:

You have to do it a certain way or they don't work at all and it's so annoying.

Update 3:

You have to do that stupid thing where you twist the timer for no reason or they don't turn on!

Update 4:

I'm not in the USA that's why and it's a Chinese electric oven which seems to be the norm for less expensive over in the Southern Hemisphere.

I've never seen an oven where you have to do anything with the timer to turn it on - normally you set the timer to turn the oven OFF.

My oven has two controls: temperature and mode. Temperature is self-explanatory. Mode selects off, grill, oven, fan oven.

It sounds like you have a very odd oven or you don't understand how to use it.
