A cucumber does not ripen to sweetness, therefore, it is not a melon. And a melon is not a cucumber for the same reason.

Cucumber does not ripen to sweetness>>>>>>>>>>>not a melon.

Melon ripens to sweetness>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> not a cucumber.

They are all Cucurbits. That is all.

A cucumber is no more a melon or a melon a gourd than a tomato is a potato, or a potato a bell pepper.
