Red light with a 650-nm wavelength travels from air into glass (n=1.52).

a) What is its speed in the glass?

b) What is its wavelength in the glass?

    a)

    n = c1/c2

    c2 = c1/n = 3.00*10^8/1.52 = 1.97*10^8 m/s

    b)

    λ1 = Τ*c1

    λ2 = T*c2

    λ1/λ2 = c1/c2 = n

    λ2 = λ1/n = 650/1.52 = 428 nm

    (a) (2.998 x 10^8 m/s)/(1.52) = about 2 m/s but use calculator.

    (b) (650 nm)*(1.52) = about 980 nm but use calculator.
