Why do people follow those above their rank and ignore those below their supposing high status?

    It's in our biology. Not only us, but in every animal too: they all understand about rank and hierarchy.

    We have a herd of cows, and I have watched the herd social dynamics for years, trying to figure it out. There is a lot there, but I have never understood most of it. Just in the ability to communicate with each other is amazing. Anyway, it is apparent that such things as your question is within the genetics of the species. The chemistry of it is unknown.

    A pack of wolves and a pod of dolphins have ranks.
