You must have the wrong board then or something is wrong with the BIOS. You really need a decent board for overclocking the 3900x. If you're trying this on a b450 board or a cheaper x470 board then Get Real. Part of the reason these $350 or $400 board exist is because the VRM's can deliver more power to the CPU. Boards like this are kinda pointless for running the CPU at stock speeds but they're an asset if you're going for a high overclock.

You can overclock all cores on the 3900x but there isn't any point in doing so. The average 3900x can push 4.1ghz with all cores overclocked.

    probably because they'd melt.

overclocking is a bad idea in general. it shortens the life of the hardware, for minimal gain.

if you want lots of processing threads, buy AMD.

if you want high speed CPUs, buy Intel.

    it's pretty simple.

Cooler has nothing to do with allowing you to overclock.

Motherboard BIOS has everything to do with allowing you to overclock.
