does filling up a flash drive completely have any effect on the drives "safety?"?

... for instance, if I take a flash drive and fill it up until there s only one megabyte left, does that increase the possibility of losing my files, failure of the flash drive or anyting? Or is it exactly the same as if I leave 3 or 4 gigabytes free? Asking because I want to back up a bunch of stuff.

it will reduce the life of the drive quicker than if it had 3/4 GB left but it wont increase failure rates

Ha! never even thought of it having an effect on the lifespan. Just thought it would fail/die from being too full. Thank you!!

NEVER fill a flash drive all the way up.

No it shouldn't & I think the word you meant is reliability.
