Is the government profiting from these industries? How?
I’m wondering if the government in America profits from the industries listed below:
1. Therapy services
2. Rehabilitative services
3. Prescription drugs (and would this change under universal healthcare?)
4. Abortion services
5. Plastic surgery
6. Immigration and illegal immigration
If they do, is it because they can tax it? If not, how else? Is the amount of money substantial enough to drive government officials to make political decisions based off this profit? I’m writing a fiction novel about dystopian America and this is a theme in the book.

The government profits tremendously from immigration and illegal immigration. Legal immigrants pay some fees for visa applications, etc., but the many source of revenue is the regular taxes that everyone else also pays, especially the payroll taxes. Like other workers, illegal immigrants pay social security and medicare taxes, but they don't get to collect the benefits, so the tax they pay is pure profit for the government, which subsidizes the cost of providing benefits to U.S. citizens.

ALL countries benefit from its citizens working instead of being unemployed. The employed pay taxes. The unemployed leech of the taxpayers.
